Prepare for the Retro Rapture
Within the Semester, we’ll refine two feature routines, plus dance and stretch to countless brilliant tunes including choreographed warm-ups. Riss and our students are constantly discovering new and old music: it’s one of the most rewarding parts of being alive!
At The Cassettes we know a varied playlist is vital. Every class is individually curated to ensure surprise and delight are always in store for you.
The class act of Blondie’s Heart of Glass and Call Me. Sneaking in some punky New Wave!

Glam rock explosion of feeling, I Was Made for Loving You. Just one of our feature tracks.

PS: every mature-minded and respectful adult is welcome at Cassettes: non-binary, man or woman.
The Benefits of doing Cassettes:
- Being part of a fabulous group. We have a wide range of professionals, creatives and parents dancing at The Cassettes. It’s an incredible, caring and generous community I feel lucky to hold space for.
- Experiencing original choreography (not commercial dance) is a beautiful way to expand your perspective of what is possible. Invite new flavours into your body.
- Humour. Cassette classes are often funny.
- Dance improves your health, both immediately and longterm: It helps prevent osteoporosis and dementia more than any other activity.
- Psychological wellbeing. Dance brings together cognitive, emotional and physical wellbeing. The word “emotion” is derived from the Latin ’emovere’ meaning to move or move through. At Cassettes there’s a song and dance for every emotion. The proof is in the pudding: one always feels better after class. The proof is also in the science: dance is proven to help reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. The Bee Gees were right: You should be dancing, yeah!
- More playfulness and fun in your life
- You may not realise, but every time you have fun and feel more confident, society benefits. 80s dance is powerful stuff!
- Time to just enjoy yourself and be carefree
- Feel more energised, sparkly and inspired
- Increased tone and fitness, bone density, balance and grace
- Being guided and cared for by an experienced and rather jazzed-up teacher
- Bone health. Who’d have thought preventative health care could be so fun?

That operatic voice and emotional torrent of guitar riffs. Bring on the cold November rain!
What is expected of you:
- Phones on silent. Use this time to switch off from the many demands of modern life.
- Kindness and courtesy. Cassette class etiquette includes not speaking over the teacher.
- Move at your own level and respond to your bodies’ limitations and strengths. Adapt moves to suit how your body is feeling today. Equally, if you want to extend movements, go for it! We praise wherever you’re at.
- Be spatially aware: Pay attention to where you are in the room and in relation to others. Avoid crowding up. Move yourself to emptier parts of the room: often at the front, or next to the teacher when we’re in a circle.
- Check your calendar before joining: Changes to bookings incur a 20% administration fee, plus classes passed, whether attended or not.
What to bring:
- Water bottle and sweat towel
- Yoga mat or towel for stretch and relaxation
- Dance shoes, joggers or bare feet
- Arrive 5-min before class to stretch and settle in
- Comfy active wear, colour encouraged! New Cassette top coming soon.
- Respect for teacher, team and yourself.
Good choreography is the best way to get fit and feel strong: because it’s the outcome, yet not the primary focus.
Tone and vitality is just a happy side-effect of getting lost in the moves and the music…

So many hilarious and dynamic artists to explore.
