Prepare for the Retro Rapture
Within the Semester, we’ll refine two feature routines, plus dance and stretch to countless brilliant tunes including choreographed warm-ups. Riss and our students are constantly discovering new and old music: it’s one of the most rewarding parts of being alive!
At The Cassettes we know a varied playlist is vital. Every class is individually curated to ensure surprise and delight are always in store for you.
More details:
- Carefully planned, lovingly delivered, top-notch classes suitable for Beginner and Intermediate movers.
- Warm-ups and stretch sequences, to keep our bodies cared for
- Happy cardio fitness: the kind you seriously wouldn’t do without Cassette motivation!
- Social connection with a positive, supportive and uplifting group of Byron Shire legends
- Video keepsake of our joyful yet casual performances
- Super-fun 80s Dance routines, suitable to experienced and beginner movers. Choreography is designed so that experienced dancers can extend or deepen: this is the art of being a dancer!
- Make-up class option: if you need to miss a class, attend our other weekly Cassette Class.
- Creativity, connection and self-discovery. Cassettes are famous for being “so much more than a dance class”
- Embodying 80s classics plus 70s, 90s and a sprinkling of current (ish!) music.
- Nourishing cool downs to nurture your inner peace
- Home rehearsal videos so you can enliven your lounge-room
- 2 x Joyous show classes, one of which is a nature flashmob: We’ll film the dance outside, under the sky. Beauty within beauty. The final weeks of the 2 x terms within Semester are creatively costumed, with an open dress-up theme. We encourage reduce-reuse-recycle: no need to buy any costume items.
We also like to have social get-togethers outside of class…stay tuned!
The Benefits of doing Cassettes:
- Being part of a fabulous, supportive group. We have a wide range of professionals, creatives and parents dancing at The Cassettes. It’s an incredible, caring and generous community I feel lucky to hold space for.
- Experiencing original choreography (not commercial dance) is a beautiful way to expand your perspective of what is possible. Invite new flavours into your body.
- Humour. Cassette classes are often funny.
- Dance improves your health, both immediately and longterm: It helps prevent osteoporosis and dementia more than any other activity.
- Psychological wellbeing. Dance brings together cognitive, emotional and physical wellbeing. The word “emotion” is derived from the Latin ’emovere’ meaning to move or move through. At Cassettes there’s a song and dance for every emotion. The proof is in the pudding: one always feels better after class. The proof is also in the science: dance is proven to help reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. The Bee Gees were right: You should be dancing, yeah!
- More playfulness and fun in your life
- You may not realise, but every time you have fun and feel more confident, society benefits. 80s dance is powerful stuff!
- Time to just enjoy yourself and be carefree
- Feel more energised, sparkly and inspired
- Increased tone and fitness, bone density, balance and grace
- Being guided and cared for by an experienced and rather jazzed-up teacher
- Bone health. Who’d have thought preventative health care could be so fun?
Ready to integrate emotional, physical and intellectual health through the magic of Cassettes dance? Complete your booking below!
What is expected of you:
- Phones on silent. Use this time to switch off from the many demands of modern life.
- Kindness and courtesy. Cassette class etiquette includes not speaking over the teacher.
- Move at your own level and respond to your bodies’ limitations and strengths. Adapt moves to suit how your body is feeling today. Equally, if you want to extend movements, go for it! We praise wherever you’re at.
- Be spatially aware: Pay attention to where you are in the room and in relation to others. Avoid crowding up. Move yourself to emptier parts of the room: often at the front, or next to the teacher when we’re in a circle.
- Check your calendar before joining: Changes to bookings incur a 20% administration fee, plus classes passed, whether attended or not.
What to bring:
- Water bottle and sweat towel
- Yoga mat or towel for stretch and relaxation
- Dance shoes, joggers or bare feet
- Arrive 5-min before class to stretch and settle in
- Comfy active wear, colour encouraged! New Cassette top coming soon.
- Respect for teacher, team and yourself.
Interesting choreography is the best way to get fit and feel strong because there’s an outcome, yet it’s not the primary focus. Tone and vitality is just a happy side-effect of getting lost in the moves and the music…

It’s the best way to get body and brain fit, while having a good time and leaving all other worries behind 🙂
